My First Schleich
MY FIRST SCHLEICH
Hi! I’m Jo Henderson, and I’ll be writing some blogs on Schleich for Andrew and the team at Schleich Village. I’m excited about this endeavor and hope you love and enjoy your Schleich as much as I do.
I bought my first Schleich pieces in 1995, in of all places Germany - the motherland of Schleich. I still have three of those pieces to this day! They are the fox (14212), Shire with mane up (13222-1), and the pony (13215).
Little did I know then I had bought one of those unique variation pieces - the Shire, the original having it’s mane flat (13222). As a collector I love these quirks Schleich used to do. I think the Shire mane up is a handsome boy, better than the standard version. Is this because he’s harder to get, probably lol. Hey, I’m a die-hard collector, what can I say!
The rest I bought that day were other various horses. I gave them to my family members when I got back from Germany, sigh. In later years, as I got more serious about collecting, I’ve slowly re-bought most of those I gave away. It’s not like having those hand-picked originals though!
These guys are very old, grubby and well played with, but that just means they’ve been well loved and gives you an appreciation of just how durable Schleich really is!
What was your first Schleich piece you bought?
Is there a story behind it?
